                 SOME RELATED FAMILY NAMES

Amoung the related family names in the genealogy section,
which forms the second part of this book, there are four
(excluding "Smith") that are each represented by five or
more individuals. They are: Banks (7), Bent (5), Daniels (6)
and Whitman (7)....all prominent Annapolis Valley names. All
four family names were brought from the New England colonies
to Nova Scotia in 1760. They came in response to an
invitation from the colonial goverment in Nova Scotia to
fill the land left by the Acadiens when they were expelled
in 1755. This group of settlers was known as "Planters".

As they were the "in-laws" of some of the descendants of
Abel Beals, perhaps it would be interesting to explore these
relationships.

BANKS
The name was brought from England to America by Richard
Banks who settled in Scituate, Mass. His great grandson,
Joshua, brought his family to Nova Scotia. His son, Joshua

Intermarriages between these two families were:

1813 - Elijah, son of Abel + Hannah (Joshua, Joshua).

    1840 - Elizabeth (Elijah, Abel) + John Herman G.
           (Moses, Moses, Joshua).

           Ruth Alice.

           Carloine.

ca 1900 - Emma Frances (Isaac, Isaac, Abel) + John, perhaps
son of Ambrose L. (Jacob, Joshua, Joshua).

1907 - Mary E. (George Fletcher, John, Elijah, Abel) +
           Ulysses.
